Invented in 2048 by John Henry Chloraker, the warp drive revolutionized interstellar travel. Previously, theoretical methods of creating Einstein-Rosen bridges existed, but it would be highly dangerous to send matter through them due to intense gravitational forces compressing it, potentially creating a microscopic black hole. The warp drive utilizes sub-tacyonic particles to create a disruption field which reduces the effect of gravity on everything within it to an incredibly miniscule percentage, allowing safe passage. For safety reasons, ships not equipped with one aren't even capable of making an attempt to bridge a warp gate.
