A mass driver or electromagnetic catapult is a method of non-rocket launch which uses a linear motor to accelerate and catapult payloads up to high speeds. While mostly used in no-gravity environments, this advanced weapon compensates for the gravity-induced drop in velocity and thus can be used even near the surface of a planet, making it usable on flying aircraft too.
